A Ground Hog named Phil is on my List

Snow bound

Well moving snow around is now a full time job at Quarter Mile Farm. And honestly, we’ve just run out of places to put it! I’ve been doing my best to keep the farm stand open, but there have been some days! Not to mention losing some farm equipment (um, our PLOUGH!) in the final hour (shout out to Frank’s Garage!). Folks, at one point I had to use the snow blower on our entire driveway! Our quarter-of-a-mile long driveway! By the time I made it to the farm stand at the end, it was noon. I know this, because folks were pulling into the driveway for pretzels..…which were clearly not happening that day. Oops!

Our chickens are on their winter hiatus too, so it is hit or miss with some of our usual bakery items that require eggs—like cookies. The girls are currently laying about every 1.5 - 2 days. In this weather! I’m so proud of them!

Even with the cold and the extra demands winter brings, there is something simplistically charming —hygge even—about thick three hundred year old stone walls and sitting in front of a fire while the storm rages outside. Our house doesn’t offer so much as a whimper while 60 mph winds whip through felling forest trees and generally burying us. And when the ovens get going, warmth spreads like a soft blanket through the entire house.

Alas, Valentine’s Day is upon us and that means not only is Spring that much closer, but our Valentine’s Day Baker’s Boxes are up for grabs! These babies are a preorder only item and I’ve left ordering open until noon Friday (tomorrow) in case you were looking for something a little different for your sweetheart. At last count there were just a few left. They will be available for farm stand pick up by noon Saturday.

Valentine’s Day

Our Baker’s Boxes are 10 items of our most popular bakery faire. Order Here

In other news, we were nominated for the 2026 Hunterdon Happening List, in the category of Happening Bakery. Whoop! If you are so inclined, we would love to receive your vote. It means so much to have our community of bread lovers sending a vote our direction. A hearty THANK YOU if you’ve done so already.

Looking forward to warmer days and spring flowers.
